Opened Closer to see one of the “Journalists” Gemma from TOWIE have used the term “thinspiration”
She discusses how she got food poisoning and it “helped her lose 5lb!” (but warned that it’s “really not worth it”) She also says how Kirstie Alley is her “official thinspiartion” after she dropped from a size 16 to a size 8.
These are terms pro anorexia (an illness in itself as far as im concerned) sites use. Should they really be used in magazines? Magazines that are aimed at younger people ?
Obviously I’m aware that the use of terms like this will not cause anyone to have disordered eating but should they really be used in every day things? One of my tutors had never even heard of terms like this and was totally unaware of it all. I’m afraid to say i am far too aware of what goes on around websites and blogs.
What do you think? Or is it just the norm now for terms like this to be used in everyday life?
One of my main passion as a Paediatric Nurse is weight and healthy eating in children and the promotion of good healthy BALANCED eating. I know how much being “too thin/too fat” can affect your physical and mental health. A subject I’m really interested in is Eating Disorders. Not just anorexia but binge eating/over eating too.
